World Cup Qualifying – CONCACAF
Wednesday afternoon marks the beginning of the final stage of World Cup Qualifying in CONCACAF. It’s “The Hex”. Before getting into any analysis, I’m adding a shameless plug. Pick up the We Global CONCACAF spreadsheet on the Downloads page. You can follow along throughout the final round and calculate up to date standings.
Mexico (6) vs. Jamaica (44): This match features the highest ranked CONCACAF team hosting the lowest ranked CONCACAF team. As such, this should be the most lopsided game we see in The Hex. We Global is showing a 3 goal victory for Mexico.
Honduras (35) vs. USA (21): There is nothing like starting your qualifying campaign on the road in a country that has declared the match day a national holiday. That is what Honduras has done, and the 4 PM EST kickoff will try to throw the Americans for a loop. This game has the makings of a draw, but both teams for sure will be trying to start off with a huge 3 points.
Panama (18) vs. Costa Rica (33): While Costa Rica clinched a spot in the final round with an emphatic 7-0 win over Guyana, Panama was only able to draw 1-1 at Cuba. Despite the strong finish, this is a daunting task for Costa Rica. Surely if they are able to get at least a point, they will be content. We Global sees a narrow 1 goal victory for Panama, but it would not be all that surprising to see a different result.
2013 is going to be a great year for World Cup Qualifying, and it all starts tomorrow. Keep an eye on We Global Football for much, much more in 2013.
My prediction for this first round in the hexagonal is victory for both, Mexico and Panama while Honduras and USA will most probably tie
